Assistant Growing Manager

The Assistant Growing Manager works closely with the growing manager and the field teams, ensuring that Angelic Organics' standards for quality and efficiency are upheld. He or she also takes on leadership and preparatory roles to ensure a smooth work flow of upcoming activities. (Note: the field crew is divided into 4 teams with 3 to 4 workers on a team; each team has a leader.)

Please Note:  There is no on-farm housing available; please don’t apply if you cannot commute to the farm.

Available from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., typically (Late and early in the season, start time can range from 6 to 9 a.m.). Generally when we start earlier, we leave earlier. Most days during the harvest season are 8 hour workdays.

No breakfast break, so have a hearty breakfast before starting work.

Lunch: 45 minutes (Lunch starts within 5 hrs of when work begins.)

Schedule is variable: Prior to our harvest season, which begins in mid-June, workdays are contingent upon favorable weather conditions--ideal candidates will have flexibility to accommodate the needed schedule. Total hours per week will generally range from 30-57 depending on the time of the season. Early and late season hours may be even less than 30.

  18. At least 2 years of previous vegetable farm experience

  19. Previous tractor/bobcat/forklift/pallet jack experience (ideal)

  20. Ability to communicate in Spanish (ideal)

  21. Respectful towards organic and Biodynamic principles

  22. Desire to grow not only vegetables but also one’s self

  23. Interested in multi-year employment

Work Responsibilities: Supervision of the Following Tasks

Greenhouse: seeding, block-making, block-separating, cleaning, & watering.

Field Work: planting, weeding, trellising, row-covering, & mulching.

Harvest: uphold standards set for each crop. Special care and attention is taken to ensure that the vegetables’ vitality and freshness are maintained.

Post Harvest:ensure that vegetables are cleaned, stored and packed in a timely manner to ensure freshness. This could also involve assisting the driver on a delivery.

General Upkeep: cleaning, organizing, vehicle & tool maintenance, & inventory. Support the work of other departments and managers.

Other Work Responsibilities

Observes field environments, with special attention on potential weed, pest and blight infestations

  2. Evaluates employee work habits

Prepares for upcoming always ahead of the crew so transition time is kept to a minimum

Hiring Process

We evaluate all candidates who submit an application as described above.

  1. 1.After receiving an application, we will initiate phone interviews with qualified candidates.

2. Based on the interview, we may schedule an interview in person.

3. If we would like to further explore employment with the candidate, we will schedule a trial week.

4. At the end of the 1st trial week, we will evaluate the possibility of a 2nd trial week.

5. By the end of the 2nd trial week, we will make a determination as to whether we wish to hire the candidate for the rest of the season.

Pay Advancement and Opportunities

The starting wage is $10 /hour and additional pay is commensurate with additional skills, experiences, and assigned responsibilities.
